Family Promise is a non-profit homeless shelter whose mission is to address homelessness in our community-one family at a time. Through their network of congregations and volunteers, they have met homeless families� immediate needs for shelter, meals and comprehensive support. They have successfully empowered 82% of their families to get back on their feet and back into sustainable, improved lifestyles.
When Family Promise opened its doors in 1997 Spokane Valley United Methodist Church became a support church for St. Mary�s Catholic Church. St. Mary�s is one of 12 host churches that house the families on a twelve week rotation. As a support church SVUMC chose Tuesday (once every 12 weeks) to be their day of support.
SVUMC provides:
� a dinner for the families
� two volunteers who are dinner hosts
� two volunteers who serve as overnight hosts.
Volunteers are trained and provided the directions they need.
