Obituary for Darlene Pessien
July 23, 1955 – November 11, 2025
Darlene Pessein dedicated her life to helping others, making a meaningful career as a licensed mental health therapist. Through her work, she offered compassion, insight, and steady support to countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on those she served. Outside of her profession, Darlene lived fully through her passions. She loved hiking, treasured her many friendships, and shared a deep bond with her beloved dogs and horses. Often blending her love of animals with her calling to help others, she trained multiple dogs to serve as certified therapy dogs, extending comfort and companionship beyond her clinical work. Darlene was a well-known equestrian who took great joy in competing with jumping horses. She also spent many years raising horses, a pursuit that reflected her dedication, patience, and respect for the animals she loved. Darlene will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, her devotion to both people and animals, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 1:00pm at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church (115 N. Raymond Rd. – Spokane Valley) with a reception to follow. Memorial gifts may be directed toward Hospice of North Idaho (checks may be sent to 2290 W. Prairie Ave. Coeur d' Alene, ID 83815) and Double J Dog Ranch in Hauser, Idaho (donations can be made on-line at doublejdogranch.org).
